Cleethorpes young stars lead the way

THE harsh weather enabled Cleethorpes and Scarborough to stage the league’s only completed match on a day when downpours caused havoc elsewhere.

Cleethorpes took the full eight points from an eight-wicket victory at Chichester Road. Scarborough, who have won only one of their last seven matches in league and cup, were bowled out for 141 with 14-year-old off-spinner Jordan Cook taking 3-27 and Chris Grey making an unbeaten 41.

Cleethorpes completed their first win since May 26, opener Harry Warwick leading the way with 62. Prithvi Shaw, the 14-year-old all-rounder from Mumbai, who recently arrived at Cleethorpes, struck an undefeated 42 and he took his side safely to victory with Jack Wilson, who made 27 not out.

Rotherham reached 60-2 in 21 overs at second-placed York before rain won the day. Openers James Moorhouse and Darren Purshouse made 11 runs each before being removed by pace bowler Jake Murphy, who finished with 2-18 from 10 overs. Incredibly there were 34 extras.

Harrogate’s match at Driffield was abandoned after 18 overs when they had reached 51-2. Alexis Twigg made an undefeated 25 and Driffield fast bowler Ollie Ezard took 2-16 in seven overs, including five maidens.

Castleford were hoping to build on their home victory over Cleethorpes but the rain was again the winner at Savile Park where the home side posted 37 without loss in 10.3 overs against an Appleby Frodingham team beaten in three successive games.

Charles Finan was the dominant batsman with 21, Alex Romaniw supporting with eight.

There was no play between Sheffield United and Barnsley or Yorkshire Academy and Sheffield Collegiate.
