Hat-trick is highlight in Sandri's haul

Drakes Huddersfield SOUTH African pace bowler Pepler Sandri included a hat-trick in a seven-wicket haul as Clayton West defeated Holmfirth by four wickets in the only match to survive Saturday's torrential rain.

Sandri, who was invited for trials by Yorkshire and is also a fine performer with the bat, holds a European passport, as he originally hails from Italy.

The 6ft 4in all-rounder, from the Cape Cobras club was recommended to Yorkshire by Geoff Boycott who now lives near Cape Town.

Sandri's eight overs brought him a 7-45 return and fellow South African Paul van den Berg took 3-33 from 13 overs.

Holmfirth were bowled out for 112 despite a determined 38 from Javed Iqbal Snr. Clayton West's batsmen did not have things all their own way in the 34 overs-a-side contest, Faisal Hussain taking 3-67 in his 14.4 overs, but Sandri's unbeaten 31 helped West take all six points.

They remain in ninth place but are now 15 points ahead of 10th- placed Meltham. Holmfirth remain in danger of relegation, 12 points above second-from-bottom Lascelles Hall and three behind fourth-from-bottom Shelley.
