Having a Ball at Church's expense

Wetherby

Simon Ball hammered a rapid 94, including 31 off one over, to keep Scarcroft on course for the First Division championship.

Ball guided Scarcroft to 265-9 against bottom side Church Fenton, whose reply of 177-6 included a half-century by James Stevenson.

Leaders Scarcroft are six points ahead of their closest rivals Shadwell and Old Modernians.

All-rounders Ryan Hercules (67 and 3-39) and Mohammed Tariq (55 and 6-29) were Shadwell's match-winners at Great Preston while Steve Clapham (46), Jimmy Baker (35no), Stuart Borrill (4-43) and Shaun Delaney (3-43) led Modernians to an eight-wicket victory over Sicklinghall.

Walton's title hopes were dented by their second straight defeat when they lost by 13 runs at lowly Wetherby.

Walton fell for 167, replying to Wetherby's 180 that featured half-centuries from Ian Twitchen and Paul Garton.

Jonathan Cannon (68), Nick Ryder (4-22) and Richard Ward (3-43) gave Kirk Deighton the edge against Spofforth.

Tom Geddes struck five sixes in an unbeaten 112 off 85 deliveries in Barwick in Elmet's nine-wicket win at St Chad's.

Second Division pacesetters East Keswick increased their lead to 12 points when Sujahat Riaz (100no) led them to a six-wicket victory over rivals Police.

Henry Burton hit an unbeaten 84 and brothers Graham and Ian Hutchison claimed seven wickets as Bilton beat Thorner.
