Holliday leads way as Methley claim double

METHLEY pipped last year’s champions Townville for the Premiership title on the final day.

Jack Hampshire Trophy winners Methley completed a league and cup double by beating Mirfield Parish Cavaliers by two wickets to finish one point ahead of Townville, who defeated Hunslet Nelson by six wickets.

Methley and Townville both failed to collect maximum points because they were unable to bowl out their opponents.

Chris Holliday hit 60 and Richard Foster 44 as Methley overhauled Cavaliers’ 174-9 that included 57 by Michael Padgett.

All-rounder Connor Harvey struck an unbeaten 46 off 29 balls and claimed 6-43 in Townville’s 11th successive league win.

Jack Scanlon (76) and Will Stiff (45) top-scored in Hunslet’s total of 204-8.

With Scholes switching to the Bradford League, only one team will be relegated from the top-flight and Hunset avoided the drop after they finished level on points with bottom side Hopton Mills, who were relegated because they had one less win.
