Holmfirth celebrate thanks to Ejaz haul

HOLMFIRTH gained their first outright win of the season at the 21st attempt with a four-wicket success at Delph & Dobcross.

Former Saltaire raider Awais Ejaz grabbed six wickets as Delph were sent back for 110 in 38.4 overs. Shabir Rashid made an unbeaten 47 and Holmfirth reached their target in 23 overs.

Barkisland seamer Alex Scholefield and off-spinner Matthew Steers wrecked Slaithwaite, Scholefield taking 5-49 and Steers (3-5) as the home side were removed for 69. Barkisland then lost two wickets before reaching their objective after 11 overs.

Danny Glover and Liam Wiles took five wickets each for Shepley, who demolished Kirkburton for 86 in 33.5 overs and won by 10 wickets. Dan Wood’s undefeated 53 was comprised almost entirely of boundaries as he hit 10 fours and a six. Opening partner Amar Rashid included four fours and two sixes in an unbeaten 35.

Hoylandswaine pressed on towards the title with a seven-wicket victory over Elland. Spinner Richard Wilkinson took 6-50 in 18.4 overs in helping to dismiss Elland for 181 in 46.4 overs, Daniel Arms making a valiant 61. Half-centuries by Alex Morris and Sarjinder Pal Singh assisted Hoylandswaine to victory in 28 overs.

Three top division matches were ended by bad light. Steve Whitwam hit an undefeated 103 for Golcar, who declared at 206-5. Skelmanthorpe reached 67-3 when play was abandoned. Simon Kelly made 88 and took four wickets for Honley but the game ended with Meltham 49 runs behind and their last pair at the wicket.

Ibrar Younas took 6-49 as Scholes were bowled out for 106 but bad light ended play with Shelley on 80-5.
