TOM PRINGLE and Dan Woods sent Harrogate spinning to defeat at St George’s Road as champions York climbed to the top for the first time this season.

The spin pair took five wickets each in ousting Harrogate for 163 runs in the 53rd over, after York had posted 220-8. No 6 Nick Kay was York’s best batsman with 66.

Driffield had an incomplete win over Rotherham by 77 runs, Ali Asad hitting 12 fours and a six in amassing 112. Danny Broumpton made 53 and had a fifth-wicket stand of 122 with Asad. Gareth Purshouse and James Moorhouse collected half-centuries for the losers.

Sheffield United are still chasing their first league win after losing by five wickets to Appleby Frodingham. United’s batsmen were sent back for 88 in 47 overs. It would have been much worse without a ninth-wicket partnership of 46 by Dean Smith and Rory McInnes-Gibbons.

Jack Forrester and Zimbabwean David Brent shone with the ball, Forrester taking 3-15 in 10 overs, including three maidens, and Brent claiming 3-17 in nine overs. Paul Hilton also bowled tidily, taking 2-27 off 10.5 overs.

Appleby Frodingham did not have things all their own way in the reply and at one stage had lost five wickets for 45 runs. However, Tom Brookes (25no) and Matt Fowler (21no) then guided them to victory in the 21st over.

Scarborough climbed above hosts Castleford with a four-wicket win at Savile Park. Liam Hyde made 61, including seven boundaries, in Castleford’s 171-9 but Scarborough captain and opener Andy Simpson replied with 72 containing seven fours and three sixes. Simpson and Darren Harland added 98 for the second wicket.
