Title bid still on course for Streethouse
Torbeck Pontefract STREETHOUSE stayed on course to lift the First Division title for the eighth time in 10 seasons by stretching their lead to eight points following a narrow victory.
They eventually saw off struggling Wombwell Main by 10 runs in the only top-flight match that survived the torrential rain that plagued the whole region on Saturday.
Callum Geldart led the way with a fine 50 and he was ably supported by Paul McMullan (38no) and captain Richard Vigars (27) to guide Streethouse to 180-8 in a match reduced to 34 overs.
Wombwell's Joe Ashurst claimed 3-41, while Chris Bond weighed in with 3-42.
Opener Lee Clayton hammered an excellent 90 and Ashurst hit 40, but their efforts were in vain as Wombwell's reply finished short on 170-6.
Upper Haugh improved their chances of avoiding relegation by beating fellow strugglers Askern in the only Second Division match played.
Tom Allen (41) and Darren Hough (31) led Upper Haugh to 151-6 in a 33-over game.
In reply, Askern were sent reeling from 52-2 to 95 all out by former Townville pace bowler Chris Cotton (6-37) and Chris Lambert (4-27). Askern's defeat was hard on all-rounder Daniel O'Grady who took 2-23 before scoring 20 not out.
