LEADERS Harrogate suffered their first defeat of the season as Castleford beat them by 38 runs at St George’s Road to gain their first victory.
Castleford were bowled out for 225 runs in 54.2 overs, Jonathon Tattersall taking 5-40 in his 7.2 overs. Charles Finan and David Wainwright compiled half-centuries for Castleford and, although Scott Huntley hit an unbeaten 58 in reply, Harrogate were restricted to 187-9.
Yorkshire Academy lost by one wicket at Appleby Frodingham where Paul Bell hit a vital 62 not out and Matt Fowler added 27 to his four outfield catches.
Rotherham Town completed their first win and sent visitors Scarborough to the foot of the table despite half-centuries by Darren Harland and James Pick in Scarborough’s innings of 230. Mark Cummins struck an undefeated 74, Gareth Purshouse also hit a half-century and Nathan Smith made an unbeaten 47 as Town won by seven wickets.
Driffield Town defeated Barnsley by 31 runs at Kings Mill Road. Danny Broumpton led the way with 61, including three fours and three sixes, as the home side posted 217-8.
Barnsley captain Steve Nuttall resisted with an innings of 48 and last wicket pair Callum Bethel and Ali Jahangir added 34, but Barnsley were finally dismissed for 186 in 48.4 overs.
Winless Sheffield United continued their miserable start to the season at Doncaster Town where they were bowled out for just 81 in 34 overs and lost by six wickets.
Simon Widdup took 4-21 in nine overs, while Graeme Attenborough and James Stuart grabbed 3-9 and 3-35, respectively, from their 10 overs each.
Attenborough then opened the reply and made 32, Town reaching their target in 24.3 overs.
