United bow to pace of teenage strike star

APPLEBY Frodingham pace bowler Jack Forrester, 19, recorded career-best figures of 7-48 in 14.4 overs in a five-wicket win over bottom of the table Sheffield United.

Sri Lankan Isuru Jayakody opened the Sheffield innings and made 29 as they were bowled out for 143 in 51.4 overs. Bilal Anjam took 4-33 in 6.3 overs for Sheffield but an opening partnership of 86 by Duncan Heath and Matt Morland made victory for the home side inevitable. Heath completed his 50 and Morland contributed 40.

South African paceman Tumi Masekela took 5-35 in 10.5 highly effective overs for Cleethorpes, who won by seven wickets after Doncaster fell for 88 in 26.5 overs, with 14-year-old medium-pacer Tom Keast assisting Masekela by taking 3-26 in seven overs. Graeme Attenborough was left undefeated on 35.

York recovered from defeat at Driffield with a 58-run victory against visitors Harrogate. York lost four wickets for 35 runs before captain Dan Woods and Richard Love added 68 for the fifth wicket and the champions totalled 185, Tom Geeson-Brown taking five wickets.

Tom Pringle then spun his way to 4-34 in 13 overs and Harrogate fell for 127 in the 51st over, Scott Huntley making a defiant 46.

Barnsley lost by two wickets at home to Sheffield Collegiate despite teenager Callum Bethel making an unbeaten 57 batting at No 9 and taking four wickets. Alex Patmore struck a match-winning 70 for Collegiate, who squeezed home with five balls remaining.

Ali Asad’s undefeated 75 and a cameo 23 from No 10 Nick Johnson helped Driffield to a two-wicket victory at Rotherham, who had a ninth-wicket stand of 64 from Dan McLean and Will Street.
