Wrenthorpe closing in on rocky leaders

METHLEY'S Premier Division title bid suffered another setback with their third defeat in five league matches when they lost by 102 runs at Townville.
Jonathan Booth (2-2), Ritchie Bresnan (2-11), Andy Carrington (2-46) and John Rickers (1-20) restricted Methley to 142-8, replying to 246-6.
Former Leicestershire all-rounder Peter Hepworth (70no), Adam Walton (44), Hamid Khan (38) and Brad Cachopa (37) led third-placed Townville's scoring.
Methley, who had a commanding 13-point lead earlier this month, are just one point ahead of closest rivals Wrenthorpe.
Tom Glover (5-35) and David Paynter (4-36) set up Wrenthorpe's seventh straight league victory by limiting Mirfield Parish Cavaliers to 146. Gary Fellows hit 36 and Paynter 29 as Wrenthorpe knocked off the runs.
Tushar Saha bagged 5-35 as Wakefield Thornes maintained their title challenge with a five-wicket win over New Farnley.
Birstall kept alive their hopes of retaining the championship when Vikram Rathour (115), Rob McFarlane (69) and Paul Marlow (48) steered them to the day's highest total of 327-7 at Batley.
Ayaz Seedat struck a century as Batley replied with 288-8.
An unbroken 107-run stand between Danny Broadbent (58no) and Azhar Chunara (51no) guided Liversedge to a nine-wicket win over Altofts.
South African Johnny Hermitage (6-53) and Simon Purdy (4-46) toppled Altofts for 146, despite Carl Cachopa's 46.
Northowram Fields ended a 10-match losing league run by beating Ossett.
Sam Brittain (54), Rob Larner (42) and John Lister (29) steered Northowram to 243-7 and Chris Thompson (4-70) restricted Ossett's reply to 227-8, which included 83 from John Bowett.
Arun Balasubramanian (103) and all-rounder Matthew Barnes (75 and 4-29) were Scholes's match-winners as they climbed out of the bottom two with a 120-run victory over fellow strugglers East Ardsley.
Carlton lost top spot in Division One with an eight-wicket defeat against new leaders Wakefield St Michael's, for whom Richard Atkinson hammered 11 boundaries in an unbeaten half-century as they overhauled 128.
David Horsfall and Naveed Bhatti hit half-centuries for Buttershaw St Paul's in a 123-run victory at Gildersome.
