York and Academy into Cup semi-finals
Yorkshire Cup
York yesterday bounced back from their shock league defeat at Harrogate by enjoying a runs spree and reaching the Knock-Out Cup semi-final stage at Rotherham Town's expense.
Rotherham won the toss, put York in to bat and regretted their decision as the visitors amassed 326-8 in their allotted overs, Ashley Hulme making 82 and Nick Kay 76 not out.
Nathan Smith took three wickets but he was expensive and Town never looked like overhauling York's total. Smith hit a defiant 70 and Ben Sanderson (40) but York won by 71 runs.
Yorkshire Academy kept alive their hopes of a league and cup double by seeing off the challenge of Doncaster Town.
Batting first, the Academy totalled 220, Gary Balance and Joe Root making scores in the forties.
Medium pacer Charlie Roebuck then tied Town's batsmen down, taking 3-13 as the visitors were dismissed for 134 despite opener and captain Graham Attenborough's fifth half century of the season.
Scarborough meet York in the semi-finals and Yorkshire Academy play Hull or Sheffield Collegiate.
