Yorkshire ECB: All-rounder Tattersall makes instant impact

Jonathan Tattersall made an instant impact on the new season, scoring an unbeaten century and taking five wickets as Harrogate romped to victory over Sheffield United.

Overseas signing Connor Ryan hit 67 off 63 balls and put on 108 with James Latham (43) as the openers got off to flying start.

Tattersall, who hit nine fours and five sixes in his 127 not out off 115 balls, put on 233 for the third wicket with new captain George Ross, who made an impressive 104 to help his side to 364-3.

Sheffield United propped up the league last season but even in falling short, they hinted they might be a better force this time with half-centuries from Suleman Saleem and Kieran Dinnage the highlight of their 226. But once again it was Tattersall who starred with 5-51 off his 10 overs.

Yorkshire Academy got off to a winning start in the defence of their title. Doncaster bowled them out for 158 but Edward Barnes, who hit a valuable 29 batting at eight, then picked up 4-28 as the home side were bowled out for 123.

York paid the price for conceding 20 wides in 33 extras in Barnsley’s 247 and then going down by four runs.

James Brown (47) top-scored for Barnsley but their match-winners were Joe Ellis (5-38) and Zohaib Ahmad (4-83). Ellis bowled York’s top scorer Richard Love (60) and No 9 Tom Boardman, who looked as though he might snatch the win with 44 off 42 balls.

Dominic Sharp scored 103 of Castleford’s 186-8 but Rotherham Town overhauled them.
