YORK’S Holly Woodhead ensured Yorkshire claimed a notable Bramham international horse trials double with victory in Sunday’s prestigious Bishop Burton College CIC three-star Under-25 event.
The victory was particularly poignant with the 21-year-old partnering DHI Lupison, owned by her late grandad Allan, who passed away two weeks ago today.
Around 20 hours after Northallerton’s Nicola Wilson had sealed victory on Annie Clover in the CIC three-star event, overnight leader Woodhead produced a faultless clear round in Sunday’s show-jumping finale.
The youngster had a fence in hand approaching the final discipline but could afford to knock two down by the time of her moment of reckoning.
But the York raised star needed no cushion and raced clear inside the time to land a memorable victory.
Woodhead beamed: “I can’t believe it, I’m so happy. I think it will take about two weeks to sink in.”
