Andi Weimann's tackle made Rotherham Ubnited boss Paul Warne see red

Rotherham United interim-manager Paul Warne feared that utility man Will Vaulks's season was over following a robust challenge from Wolves' Andi Weimann.

Warne was livid after a late tackle from Weimann, on loan from Derby County, felled Vaulks and had to be calmed down by his coaching staff.

Warne said: “I was not best pleased because he straight-legged him. He did not catch him fully, but that is not the point because if he did catch him that would have been the end of Will’s season.

“I thought it was a straight red and then I had a flare-up with their bench because their assistant said he did not touch him. I told him to be a man about it and admit he hit him. In fairness, their manager calmed it all down.”

The Millers spurned chances en route to a record 28th defeat of a desperate season. Relegation is likely to be confirmed at the start of next month.

Warne did find individual positives, with the vibrant performance of substitute winger Jon Taylor pencilling him for a start at QPR this weekend.

Warne added: “I thought ‘Tayls’ was outstanding. I cannot handle people who come on and sulk or when people come off and sulk.

“It is not about that. I cannot play 25 of them, I can play 11 and I thought when he went on he was a bright spark and that is what you want. So he is nailed on to play in the next game.”
