Chris O’Grady netted twice as Barnsley finished their Championship era with defeat to play-off outfit QPR

Top-scorer Charlie Austin’s strike and a Jean-Yves M’voto own goal gave the away side a half-time lead, while a brilliant solo effort from Yun Suk-Young capped the victory after the break.

Barnsley fought hard, and scored twice through O’Grady, but too often did not have the quality to go with their work-rate.

Barnsley manager Danny Wilson was surprised to see his team trailing at the break, and is already looking to build towards next season in League One. He said: “I was a little bit confused at half time, being 2-0 down. I thought up until then we’d done very well.

“We were playing against a top-quality team and you’re going to have parts of the game where you lose possession to them, but we held our own very well.

“It’s bound to be a much-changed side in August. Chris O’Grady is bound to attract interest, he’s scored 15 goals in a team that’s struggled, but we want to do the best we can do for us.

“It’s one of the biggest overhauls I’ve had to do in my career. It’ll be tough to get the players in that we want, but I’d like to think that in League One we’re a bit of a draw. The infrastructure and the set-up here is conducive to getting some quality players in.”
