Barnsley ace Andy Yiadom ready to put transfer speculation behind him - Heckingbottom

Paul Heckingbottom says Andy Yiadom is ready to kick on with Barnsley after missing out on a dream summer transfer move to the Premier League - and is confident of his commitment to the cause.

The former Barnet captain saw a move to Huddersfield Town scuppered after he failed a medical due to a back issue.

An 11th-hour deadline-day switch to Swansea City also fell through after the paperwork required to allow a deal to be sealed in the two-hour window following Thursday's 11pm deadline did not arrive with the necessary parties in time.

But after having a chat with the player, Heckingbottom believes the 25-year-old is ready to put his disappointment behind him with Barnsley.

The Reds head coach, who says he is expecting Yiadom to get the all-clear to return to training following a scan next week, said: "He had been performing well for us and the club accepted a bid and were happy with the money they were going to get for him and then he had a chance to play in the Premier League and everyone was delighted and wishing him well. And then it fall through.

"It must have been difficult. But one of Yids' strengths, beside his football is that he is really level-headed and grounded.

"It will help him in situations like this and I had a chat with him on Tuesday now the deadline closed and he was like: 'you know what, I am glad nothing else can happen, it's speculation now."

On the injury front, deadline-day signings Gary Gardner and Oli McBurnie come straight into the equation for Saturday's game at Preston.

Summer capture Cameron McGeehan, yet to make his bow for Barnsley due to his rehabilitation from a long-term injury at previous club, is also knocking on the door and 'medically fit' according to Heckingbottom.

Zeki Fryers is back in training, while Lloyd Isgrove is still in rehabilitation following a foot ligament issue, with Dimitri Cavare coming towards the end of his recovery programme following injury.
