New Tykes striker Jackson '˜has pace to burn'

Wrexham striker Kayden Jackson has signed a two-year deal at Oakwell and will join Dover forward Stefan Payne and Barnet full-back Andy Yiadom at the South Yorkshire club ahead of 2016-17.

“We are really thrilled to have Kayden choose us over other clubs,” said caretaker manager Paul Heckingbottom. “He has pace to burn, likes to get at defenders and will fit in nicely to the way we play. He has brilliant potential and we’re excited to have him on board.”

As the trio of Barnsley signings leave the National League, one club heading in the opposite direction is York City.

Relegated from League Two after a miserable campaign, the Minstermen have begun their recruitment by signing full-back duo Shaun Rooney and Alex Whittle.

Manager Jackie McNamara brought Richard Brodie back to Bootham Crescent last week, but yesterday’s captures are designed to improve a porous defence.

Rooney, 19, joins from Dunfermline, while 23-year-old Whittle was at Southport last term.

Aiden McGeady has not been included in Sheffield Wednesday’s squad for Saturday’s Championship play-off final with Hull City.

The winger, on loan from Everton, has joined up with the Republic of Ireland squad ahead of Euro 2016 after being told by the Owls he was not required for the all-Yorkshire promotion showdown at Wembley.

Ireland’s manager Martin O’Neill said: “Aiden and the manager decided for one reason or another that he wouldn’t participate in the final.”

Burnley have confirmed Rangers target Joey Barton has been offered a new contract, along with former Leeds United and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

Both are out of contract following the club’s Championship title-winning campaign, but manager Sean Dyche wants them to remain at Turf Moor.

Barton, 33, excelled for the Clarets last term, but is the top target of Ibrox chief Mark Warburton, who is understood to have offered him a three-year contract. Robinson signed in January as cover for Tom Heaton, but is yet to make his debut.
