Prospect of duel with Harry Kane excites Barnsley's Liam Lindsay

BARNSLEY defender Liam Lindsay says he is relishing locking horns with Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley this evening - and would love to come up against a footballing '˜beast' in Harry Kane.

It remains to be seen what line-up Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino fields, having openly stated that his priorities very much lie with the Premier League and Champions’ League.

But the Argentine is also likely to be conscious of the fact that Spurs have not lifted silverware since 2008, with his counterpart Paul Heckingbottom expecting to face a competitive line-up - and possibly an even stronger one than the side who took the field against Swansea City at the weekend.

On the tie, Lindsay said: “Everyone will be trying to prove themselves against a massive team. The pressure is off us really and we can just go and play our football and hopefully get something.

“You see them (Spurs) on Match of the Day and stuff and it is who you want to play against. It will be good.

“That is when you are testing yourself. The fringe players are of a high standard as well, but you want to be playing against your Harry Kane’s and Dele Ali’s to see where you are at.

“Kane is a beast and has got everything. He’s a complete forward. But that can only be good for me - testing myself against one of the top strikers in the world.”

The former Patrick Thistle defender added: “I have never even played at Hampden. The English national stadium is also a first for me.

“But I have played in front of big crowds and playing at the likes of Celtic a good few times has helped me a lot. Hopefully, the atmosphere will be just as good.

“My dad is on holiday and my mum doesn’t come down without my dad. My brother texted me to see if I am playing, but I don’t know if I am playing yet. So he does not want to come down in case I am not playing!”
