BARNSLEY fell to their third League One loss in a row after a 2-1 loss at Southend United.
The recalled Josh Scowen fired Barnsley into the lead with a 24th-minute penalty but the hosts staged a comeback and levelled nine minutes before the break through Anthony Wordsworth.
Luke Prosser then hit what would prove the game’s winner two minutes before the break.
Boss Lee Johnson said: “We have to be physically and mentally stronger. Credit to them because they imposed their strength on us.
“After we scored we looked all right and comfortable. But we didn’t see off the half.
“We need everybody now to help us. There are three losses on the spin in the league.”
