The Reds, who travel to Walsall with a healthy three-goal lead ahead of Thursday’s League One play-off semi-final, second leg, are well down the line with plans for next season, whatever division they are in - having swooped to sign Yiadom.

The ex-Watford winger was the subject of several failed bids last summer, with Barnsley having now finally got their man.

Caretaker head coach Heckingbottom, who reports new fresh injuries concerns ahead of the second leg in the West Midlands following Saturday’s outstanding 3-0 win, said: “He has been someone who has been on the radar for a couple of years now.

“He has played lots of games and been successful in the Conference and done well in League Two and plays regularly with lots of athletic qualities and is out of contract. It was a no-brainer, really.

“We feel he is someone who can add to our squad, not only with his versatility, but his qualities in being able to play in a number of roles - right-side of midfield, right back and possibly central midfield.”

On the prospect of further recruits, he added: “We have got things in place and it is just the timing with clubs involved and not involved in seasons still.

“For six or seven weeks, we have been compiling and getting names together.”
