Benning bolsters Minstermen

York City manager Russ Wilcox believes the loan capture of Malvind Benning means there is competition for every position in his team.

The 21-year-old left-back has joined the Minstermen from Walsall for an initial month.

Benning’s debut came in 2012 and he has made 15 appearances for the Saddlers this season.

Wilcox said: “I have been monitoring his career for a while and it now means we have competition for every position, which is important.

“Malvind brings League One experience.”

Asked whether York were looking to make any further additions in the window, Wilcox replied: “We are trying to keep things open.

“Diego (De Girolamo, Sheffield United midfielder) possibly coming back would be nice, but we will have to wait and see if he becomes available again.”
