Bradford City goalkeeper Colin Doyle frustrated at hard luck stories

BRADFORD CITY goalkeeper Colin Doyle admits to having grown tired of sending the same post-match '˜hard luck story' via text to his family.

The Bantams remain firmly in the hunt for promotion from League One despite a disappointing run of just three wins from their last 14 league outings.

City’s standing as the draw specialists in the Football League – Stuart McCall’s side have 16 to their name, more than any other team in the three divisions – has helped keep the Yorkshire club in the hunt.

Doyle, however, admits to having a sense of déjà vu in recent weeks with good performances faiing to yield their deserved reward.

“I get my mum, my dad, brothers, people texting me after games asking how I have got on and if I had much to do,” said the Bradford goalkeeper. I reply, ‘No not really, we should have won..’ I should put that text, save it on my phone and send it out every Saturday night.

“Just type, ‘Yeah, nothing to do, couple of saves, should have won, battered them’.

“Seriously, the frustrating thing about it is that we are only drawing games.

“But if we can keep doing what we do, I think we will pick up results between now and the end of the season.”

Saturday’s 2-2 draw at home to Phil Parkinson’s Bolton Wanderers was yet another ‘what might have been’ result for the Bantams.

City were 2-0 up inside 16 minutes thanks to a double from new signing Charlie Wyke only to be pegged back in the second half.

Even then, though, Timothee Dieng struck a post late on for Bradford.

“You look at the games we’ve just had against Bristol Rovers, Fleetwood and Bolton,” added Doyle. “I thought (beforehand) we can pick up at least seven points.

“That wouldn’t be bad because they are teams around us. Then, though, you get a draw (against Bristol Rovers) and think, ‘Okay, we will get the two wins’. But then we threw it away at Fleetwood (City lost 2-1 after leading at half-time).

“Now, though, these games are gone and there is nothing we can do now. We have just got to train hard, give everything and look to the next game.”
