Bradford City secured their place in the League One play-off places with a 1-0 win at Roots Hall.
Lee Evans scored the only goal in the 12th minute as Bradford deservedly took all three poinst from a game they controlled.
They have qualified for the third-tier play-offs with a game to spare and can still finish as high as third.
“We stood up to Southend well and I’m delighted,” said Bradford boss Phil Parkinson.
“I’m so pleased for the supporters because they’ve been great and the momentum is with us with them right behind us.
“Now we’ve made sure of the play-offs we can take a deep breath and enjoy the achievement. “We can recharge the batteries and then look forward to what’s ahead.
“Lots of teams have seasons petering out to nothing at this stage but we have the play-offs to look forward to.
“It’s great to be involved in them and we look forward to giving everything we’ve got.
“Whoever we play it will be tough so I don’t have a preference I’m just looking forward to the games and trying to get promotion.”
