Parkinson makes his first return to Valley Parade after his summer move to Wanderers and Doyle is expecting Bolton to provide an onslaught of direct football with the former Bradford chief renowned for his pressure-based game.

Doyle said: “It’s going to be physical.

“In the game over there, there were a lot of long balls, flick-ons and long throws into the box sending their centre halves up.

We know what to expect with the three centre halves playing and then any throw-ins, they lump in and try and get bits.

“You know what’s coming so you try and prepare for it. In training, we’ve done a bit of crossing.

Banksy (Steve Banks, goalkeeping coach) said it’s going to be long balls from the back and throw-ins to the six-yard box. They’ll be looking for knock-downs, a bit like Gillingham (recently) did for their (first) goal.

“We’ve got to be right and make sure we’re switched on whoever’s going up for headers.

“We dealt with it well at Bolton.”
