Defender Joe Bennett put the Seagulls ahead with his first goal for the club in first-half stoppage time, but former Albion striker Alex Revell pounced four minutes after the break to help Rotherham stretch their unbeaten run to five games.

Evans said: “I’m pleased with the effort but at the same time frustrated. Brighton were better in the first 15 minutes but then we changed it.

“In the second half we pushed for a second goal but were denied by three or four wonderful saves by their goalkeeper.”

Evans is delighted at the way the Millers have quickly settled after successive promotions,.

The Scot added: “Last year I watched a lot of Championship football and felt it was boring. I fell asleep in games. I would rather take the chance and try and win a match.

“Stepping up to the Championship has been tough as, had this game been in League One, we would have scored three times. It’s fine margins.

“We are trying to improve and embrace it.

“We’re a much better team 13 games in than we were in League One.

“The players have to prove they are Championship players. Some of the players are proving a point.

“We are seeking more consistency to push on to the top 10. That’s the aim.”
