AGREEMENT has been reached over a loan move to Leeds United for Sunderland winger Will Buckley – but the deal will not be concluded until the end of next week.
The 25-year-old is moving to Elland Road on a 93-day emergency switch and will link up with his new team-mates today.
Buckley, however, will not officially become a United player until next week to ensure his loan stay extends beyond the end of the year and into the January transfer window.
It means the former Brighton & Hove Albion will not be available to face Middlesbrough on Sunday, with the earliest he can make his debut being at home to Birmingham City on October 3. Football League rules limit emergency loans to three months.
Leeds’s impending capture of Buckley ends a pursuit of the Sunderland man that begin in the final days of the summer window.
Buckley’s arrival will bolster United’s attacking options down the flanks, ahd he will battle it out with Stuart Dallas and Jordan Botaka, a recent arrival from Excelsior in Holland, for a place in Uwe Rosler’s side.
Meanwhile, Shola Ameobi – who Chris Powell said last week Huddersfield Town were still interested in signing after a recent trial – has been training with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The 33-year-old former Newcastle United striker was due to resume talks with the Terriers this week, according to Powell when speaking ahead of the weekend win at home to Bolton Wanderers.
However, Wolves manager Kenny Jackett has revealed that Ameobi is now in the west Midlands and hoping to secure a contract with the Molinuex club.
He said: “Shola will be training with us, and coming down to talk, but it is early in the whole situation.”
Doncaster Rovers’ trip to Millwall – scheduled for Saturday October 10 – could be postponed due to international call-ups, the London club have confirmed.
Up to five Lions players could be called up that weekend, and with League rules stating three absentees can necessitate a postponement then there is a strong chance of the game being rearranged for Tuesday, October 27.
The kick-off for the derby clash between Barnsley and Sheffield United on Saturday, November 28 has been brought forward to 12.15pm on police advice.
