Doncaster Rovers saw their derby trip to Scunthorpe United today postponed as they looked to extend their impressive away record.

Darren Ferguson’s side have not lost on their travels since slipping to a 2-0 defeat at Millwall on October 27 last year.

A seven-game unbeaten run away from the Keepmoat Stadium has helped drag Rovers to mid-table, although their home form has not been so impressive.

Doncaster lost to Scunthorpe at home on Boxing Day, and today’s trip to Glanford Park gives Ferguson a chance to avenge that loss. It is the first of three derbies for Rovers – they host Sheffield United next Saturday before a trip to Barnsley seven days later – and an opportunity to climb the table.

“We want to finish as high as we can, get as many points as we can and we’ve got to start on Saturday,” said Ferguson, who serves a one-match touchline ban today.

“I think they (the three derbies) are big, there’s no point in shying away from that. It could be a pivotal month.

“I’m not one for writing seasons off – I want us to get as many points as we can – and it’s important that when you’ve lost a couple on the bounce; Saturday is a big game. It’s a derby; it could be a good game for a lot of fans.”

On-loan American forward Lynden Gooch is set for his first taste of a derby in Rovers’ colours since arriving from Sunderland.

“I know it’s a local derby and it will be passionate,” he said.

“We need the result, that’s all that matters.

“We’ve had a few bad results in the past couple of weeks and we need to put that right straight away.

“I’ve seen derbies up in the north-east so hopefully I’ll be ready for it and I like playing in those type of games. I want to play in the big games and I like to think I can handle the pressure.

“Everyone forgets about form and you’re just focused on winning the game for the club and the fans – and yourself.”
