Resurgent Doncaster Rovers climbed up the League One table after an impressive win at Southend United.
The visitors were in front just before half-time, when Andy Williams netted from close range.
Rovers came close to a second, when Paul Keegan’s header was cleared off the line, before Aaron Taylor-Sinclair netted.
Victory was complete with a Nathan Tyson penalty, after Williams was fouled inside the box.
Manager Darren Ferguson said: “It’s a great start to the New Year, it was a complete performance on and off the ball.
“From the first minute I thought we started the game well, took control of it and it’s a really pleasing afternoon.
“We got goals at good times - just before half time through (Andy) Williams again - and then two quick goals in the second half which killed the game.”
