Maynard set for debut as Nolan begins Hammers ban

Leaders West Ham take on Peterborough at London Road and will be without captain Kevin Nolan, who starts a three-match ban after his sending-off at home to Millwall last weekend.

George McCartney is set to feature with manager Sam Allardyce insisting the left-back’s hamstring problem is only a minor one.

New signing Nicky Maynard will be hoping to make his Hammers debut after failing to get off the bench last weekend.

Leicester will have in-form striker Jermaine Beckford available for the visit of fourth-placed Cardiff.

Beckford had scored six goals in his last four matches prior to being controversially sent off early in the second half of the defeat to Brighton last weekend.

The Foxes appealed against the straight red card and the three-match suspension was overturned.

Neil Danns is suspended but on-loan striker Nathan Delfouneso (ankle) has an outside chance of being involved. Andy King (foot), Martyn Waghorn (hamstring), Darius Vassell and Jeffery Schlupp (both knee) are out while Sol Bamba and John Pantsil are on international duty.

Cardiff chief Malky Mackay will hope to be able to call on Mark Hudson (calf) and Filip Kiss (unspecified injury), while Darcy Blake is also pushing for a recall to the defence.

Full-back Kevin McNaughton is likely to keep his place in defence despite being withdrawn against Blackpool with a tight muscle.

Reading could reclaim a play-off place if they beat bottom side Coventry at home.

Reading have high hopes that Jimmy Kebe and Mikele Leigertwood will be available after respective knee and thigh problems.

Coventry’s on-loan Manchester United midfielder Oliver Norwood is expected to get a full debut.

In-form Blackpool host Portsmouth in the evening game and could go as high as third if other results go their way.

Keith Southern (ankle) remains Blackpool’s only injury absentee. Striker Roman Bednar is back in contention, while Ian Holloway must decide whether to retain Wigan loanee Nouha Dicko, who made his full debut in the win at Cardiff, or recall Lomana LuaLua.

Pompey defender Tal Ben Haim suffered a hamstring injury against Birmingham in midweek and will have a late fitness check along with forwards Benjani and Dave Kitson, who are also carrying hamstring strains but were able to come on as substitutes at St Andrew’s.

Young defender Adam Webster will be patched up after having an injection in a toe injury. David Norris has completed a three-match ban but has not recovered from a hernia operation.

Doncaster Rovers’ trip to Crystal Palace has been postponed due to a frozen pitch.
