HEADLINES 25 years ago in the Yorkshire footballing realm? Step forward Huddersfield Town, who dismantled Division Three strugglers Rotherham United 4-0 in a hefty derby success.

In the top-flight, Sheffield United’s amazing renaissance continued with their seventh straight league win, a 1-0 home verdict over Chelsea, with Scottish winger Ian Bryson being the matchwinner once again - after netting the only goal of the game for the Blades in the previous match at Roker Park.

The win sent Dave Bassett’s side up to the giddy heights of 12th place, some move when you consider they propped up the table at Christmas.

Fourth-placed Leeds United were undone by two second-half Kevin Campbell goals as George Graham’s Arsenal moved a step closer to the first division title with a 2-0 win at Elland Road.

Back in the second tier and play-off chasing Middlesbrough dug deep to chisel out a point in a 2-2 draw at the Den against Millwall after trailing 2-0 at the break.

Relegation-haunted Hull City again had to rely on the goals of deadly double act Peter Swan and Andy Payton as they claimed a valuable 2-1 Roses win at Oldham, Andy Ritchie netting from the spot for the Latics.

After hitting Leyton Orient for four at Valley Parade, on-song Bradford City backed up with a 3-0 success over visiting Exeter City in the old third division, with Steve Torpey, Sean McCarthy and Paul Jewell on the mark in another rampant home showing.

Struggling York City lost 2-1 at Cardif City, whose marksmen were Pat Heard and Leigh Barnard - Tony Canham replying for the Minstermen.

In the bottom rung, Halifax Town drew 1-1 with fellow strugglers Carlisle United at The Shay, in a month which saw the Shaymen secure some key results that helped them retain their place in the Football League.

Ian Juryeff, who hit some important goals for Town that season, netted again, with Robert Edwards netting from the spot for the Cumbrians.

Doncaster Rovers, with their automatic promotion hopes dissipating, had a big game at Feethams against Division Four leaders Darlington and despite captain Brendan Ormsby putting the visitors ahead - Andy Toman levelled for the Quakers as Billy Bremner’s Rovers dropped to seventh.

Goals from Darren Foreman and Andy Mockler (penalty) gave Scarborough a 2-0 win over Aldershot.
