After hitting Leyton Orient for four at Valley Parade, on-song Bradford City backed up with a 3-0 success over visiting Exeter City in the old third division, with Steve Torpey, Sean McCarthy and Paul Jewell on the mark in another rampant home showing.

Struggling York City lost 2-1 at Cardif City, whose marksmen were Pat Heard and Leigh Barnard - Tony Canham replying for the Minstermen.

In the bottom rung, Halifax Town drew 1-1 with fellow strugglers Carlisle United at The Shay, in a month which saw the Shaymen secure some key results that helped them retain their place in the Football League.

Ian Juryeff, who hit some important goals for Town that season, netted again, with Robert Edwards netting from the spot for the Cumbrians.

Doncaster Rovers, with their automatic promotion hopes dissipating, had a big game at Feethams against Division Four leaders Darlington and despite captain Brendan Ormsby putting the visitors ahead - Andy Toman levelled for the Quakers as Billy Bremner’s Rovers dropped to seventh.

Goals from Darren Foreman and Andy Mockler (penalty) gave Scarborough a 2-0 win over Aldershot.
