The Blades have already rejected one seven-figure bid from a Championship club - believed to be a £1.2m offer from the Blues.

But now the St Andrew’s side are set to launch a fresh bid for the 20-year-old with a new £2m offer set to test United’s resolve.

The Blues are also considering tabling a cash-plus-player bid to land their man.

The Blades are interested in signing Bury striker Leon Clarke but face competition from Coventry City.

Doncaster Rovers, meanwhile, might have to wait until January to take striker Keshi Anderson back on loan from Crystal Palace.

The 21-year-old impressed on loan at Rovers last season but is still recovering from ankle ligament damage caused by a dislocation which ended his Rovers spell last November.

Doncaster have also taken Highland League midfielder Blair Yule on trial.

Bradford City chief Stuart McCall says his side are still working hard to recruit new players with the Bantams chief also adamant that winger Mark Marshall is “going nowhere.”

Another League One side are interested in the wide man but McCall says the 29-year-old will not be leaving.

In the Premier League, following the loan signing of Alvaro Negredo from Valencia, Middlesbrough chief Aitor Karanka says his side’s transfer business is almost done - bar the search for a new centre-half.

The Teeesiders were all set to sign Serbian international Neven Subotic from Borussia Dortmund but the move fell through over complications surrounding the defender’s medical.

Hull City, meanwhile, have been linked with a move for Nigerian striker Aminu Umar, who struck a hat-trick for Turkish club Osmanlispor on Wednesday evening in a 5-0 rout of FC Zimbru of Moldova in a Europa League qualifier.

Umar, who is 21, is heading for the Rio Olympics with Nigeria.

In the Championship, long-term Leeds United target Anthony Limbombe is set to sign for Belgian side Club Brugge.

Whites chairman Massimo Cellino has been a long-term admirer of Limbombe’s talents but United and Limbombe’s club NEC could never agree a fee.

Limbombe walked out of training last week and is now heading to Brugge for a reported two-million euros on a four-year deal.

United still want to sign former loanee Liam Bridcutt from Sunderland but are being asked to pay in excess of £1.5m.

Rotherham United, meanwhile, are close to signing “four or five players” according to chairman Tony Stewart.
