EXCLUSIVE: Warnock named United’s new manager

New Leeds United manager Neil Warnock.

New Leeds United manager Neil Warnock.

NEIL WARNOCK has this morning been confirmed as the new manager of Leeds United, the Yorkshire Post can confirm, writes Richard Sutcliffe.

As tipped in this morning’s newspaper, the 63-year-old has accepted United’s offer to take charge.

His initial deal is heavily incentivised in the hope Leeds can force their way back into the promtion race.

Official confirmation is expected some time today but the Yorkshire Post has been told Warnock has said ‘yes’ after deciding to take the Leeds job ahead of Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The former Sheffield United manager met Wolves owner Steve Morgan on Thursday night and was expected to pip Steve Bruce and Alan Curbishley to the Molineux hotseat.

But the lure of Leeds and a return to his native Yorkshire has proved too much, meaning Warnock will be at today’s derby clash with Doncaster Rovers.

He will meet the players ahead of kick-off before taking full charge on Monday.

Leeds sit six points adrift of the play-offs following back-to-back defeats under caretaker manager Neil Redfearn.

For full story and reaction from Elland Road, read Richard Sutcliffe in Monday’s Yorkshire Post newspaper.

Think we should all get behind the team now and give warnock a chance and if we don't do it this season go up in style next season as champions !!

Cisco 1 ...correct... no other Yorkshire man put his hand in his pocket to save the Whites, only Bates came along and as much as I do not care for him for this Leeds fans owe him....now we have a new manager and perhaps a new era and we should get behind this guy, I hope the players 'turn up' and play for him.... hasta luego

Memo to Ken Bates - it's illogical to talk of bringing in a manager to get Leeds into the Premiership when you've sold the best players and we have a back four with an average age of 22. Bringing in a high profile 'name' is a sneaky tactic to divert attention from the fact that Leeds have generally failed against the teams currently above them in the table. Results against these teams will be the measure of how Mr. Warnock is preforming.

cisco1 I don't know how you can say bates has put money in its is all cloak and dagger but thats how the man works, there were other offers on the table and bates' wasn't even the best of the three which i find amazing (as i thought administrators wanted to get the best deal for their creditors). Anyway Warnock certainly knows how to get a team promoted, but will he get the funds to do it somehow i doubt it

Bates must have promised funds? I just cant imagine Warnock choosing Leeds over Huddersfield if not. I personally cant stand Warnock but you cant argue with his promotion record. He knows how to do the job....simples

Shocked! Suprised! Delighted! Like him or loathe him, this guy gets the job done. Possibly got too much to do this season, but Bates is going to have to get the cheque book out. Leeds are going up!!!

It might not be this season because Bates has left it late but even if you hate him, he will get you into the Prem. He is a class apart, focused, fierce, fabulous. He is three times the manager that Ferguson and Redknapp are. He should be going to the England job.

Great news! He's certainly got my backing. Bates has delivered us a quality manager, so let's have no more moaning. I see that there are still some mean-spirited souls out there posting doom and gloom. Heads up and get behind the lads today!

Great appointment and Ken has delivered to us Leeds fans what the majority of us want. Now can our own fans start backing our team and stop stabbing Ken bates in the back.Remember he saved our club with 10 million of his own money when no other Yorkshireman was prepared to save us financially ..basically long pockets with short hands ! Lets all get behind Leeds....MOT

Why do we put up with this nonsense?bates fired grayson who on record, had stats as good as sir don revie,to get a manager who on record hates leeds fans just like pappa smurf,nw has got a diabolical record in the prem,he only came to leeds to retire back in yorkshire, and thats it dont believe the media hype,we need a honest chairman, not a corrupt one,

We got the man but is it true that Papa Smurfs first words were Kneel Warnock............I hope NW gave it him straight! NW has an incentive package to get us into the play-offs and to get best out of Snods, Clayton and Macca! I can see a very good end to the season.............ALWAYS MOT

Great signing! Let's see if he can get the team playing. Most on here seem to think if Simon couldn't do it, no one can. Rubbish! Grayson was useless. And it took so long to appoint Warnock because he was negotiating his severance from QPR, a point lost on the negative numpties who offer their opinions on here.
