HUDDERSFIELD TOWN have made their second emergency loan signing in the space of two days after bringing in Aston Villa goalkeeper Jed Steer.

The Norwich-born custodian, 22, has joined on a 28-day loan and is eligible for this weekend’s Championship trip to Cardiff City.

His arrival following the opening of Wednesday’s emergency loan window comes after the fellow signing of Bournemouth defender Elliott Ward, 30, who has joined Town for an initial month.

Ward is likely to be handed his debut at Cardiff, with captain and regular centre-back Mark Hudson on the sidelines for three to four weeks with injury.

The arrival of Steer, who made 17 appearances in a loan spell at Doncaster Rovers at the start of 2014-15, means that Huddersfield now have five loan players in their squad, with the others being Mustapha Carayol, Emyr Huws and Jamie Paterson.

On Steer’s signing, Town manager Chris Powell said: “I am really happy to welcome Jed to the club.

“It’s no secret that we need another goalkeeper added to the squad and Jed has been on our radar for a while.

“He is a young talented goalkeeper who has had some experience out on loan. He has played for two different Premier League clubs and at youth level for his country and we hope that his month with us is successful in every way possible.”

Steer came through the ranks at hometown club Norwich having joined the Canaries as schoolboy and he has represented England at youth level making a total of 14 appearances for England at U16, U17 and U19 levels.
