Kevin McDonald’s 20-yard curling strike saw the hosts take the lead against the run of play mid-way through the first half. Benik Afobe sealed the three points with a brace after the interval as Wolves moved into the play-off positions for the first time since the opening weekend of the season.

Huddersfield’s lack of conviction in the final third proved costly on the day with manager Chris Powell ruing his side’s poor decision making at both ends of the pitch.

It was a loss that ended a four game winning streak away to Wolves for the Terriers, keeping them in 17th place at the time with just 10 points from as many games.

Huddersfield pulled off a shock to win their second game in four days, stopping Wolves from going top of the Championship for the first time since 2009. The Terriers somewhat disrupted the home side’s strong start to the season thanks to first half goals from Harry Bunn and Sean Scannell as well as a 30-yard strike from Conor Coady following the break.

Huddersfield were fortunate to avoid going behind early on with Sam Ricketts hitting the post before Nouha Dicko and Yannick Sagbo both missed good chances to make their team’s first half dominance count.

Bunn ensured Wolves were made to pay when he volleyed home Grant Holt’s cut back to put his side ahead in the 21st minute. The away team extended their lead five minutes before half-time when Scannell picked up a loose ball before beating Carl Ikeme from inside the box.
