Huddersfield Town v Leicester City: Wagner seeks positive response to Terriers' first setback

The Terriers head coach was an angry man in the wake of Monday night’s 2-0 defeat at West Ham United after seeing his side put in a lacklustre attacking display.

Too many unforced errors and an air of nervousness were behind Wagner’s fury but he insists that mood soon passed.

“I was angry after the game but I am totally over it now,” said the 45-year-old. “That is because I know exactly what we did wrong. It should not have happened but it did. That is part of football.

“All of us are humans and we make mistakes. Those mistakes were ones we should have avoided and that is why I was angry. But now we look forward and this is a great opportunity to respond against the champions from 2016 and who played Champions League football last year.”

Among the setbacks suffered by Town en route to winning promotion last season was an eight-game run that yielded just eight points and two heavy defeats to Fulham.

Wagner added: “We had enough setbacks last season and the players reacted great. They are part of the game, and it is all about your reaction to those mistakes. This is what the group has shown that they are able to handle set-backs.

“Now is the time to show the right reaction after Monday’s performance. Even this season we had setbacks with injuries or moments where we were lucky when opponents had chances, and we stayed brave enough. This is what we have to do again.

“Monday was not a difficult game to analyse because we knew what was wrong. Now, of course, we must show a reaction and show that we can do it better.”
