Jonathan Hogg's all-clear '˜one of best messages of season' for Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner

The 26-year-old was ruled out for the season following his sickening collision with team-mate Mark Hudson during Town’s last outing, the 4-0 defeat at Bristol City a fortnight ago.

Hogg was diagnosed with a fracture in his neck, but, following further investigation and extensive consultation with doctors, the midfielder was this week cleared to return to training.

He will not feature against Burton Albion tomorrow, but Wagner believes Hogg has a chance of featuring against Norwich City in front of the live Sky cameras next Wednesday.

“This is one of the best messages we have had in the season,” said the Town chief about Hogg’s surprise availability. “It feels like a new signing. We had in our minds that he would be out for the rest of the season, but now he is back in training.

“He has trained partly with the squad and partly doing some conditioning work with the fitness coaches. I expect him in full training on Sunday, in preparation for the Norwich game.

“Very happy days for us to have Jonathan back. It is a big boost.”

Explaining the change in circumstances surrounding Hogg, Wagner added: “There was a misinterpretation of the x-rays that were made. Now, we have consulted further with the doctors and they investigated further. New x-rays were made and they are totally sure he did not break something in his neck.

“It was an injury and one that hurt. But not as serious as we expected. We are very happy to have him back and we are now able to plan for the last games after Burton.”

Also missing tomorrow are Kasey Palmer and Isaiah Brown, the Chelsea loanee pair having spent the international break with their parent club for treatment on hamstring injuries. Both could be back in a fortnight or so, while Harry Bunn will return to training on Sunday.

Jon Gorenc Stankovic, meanwhile, will undergo surgery on his knee injury this Wednesday.

“After such an injury (anterior cruciate ligament), you expect the player to be out six to nine months,” added Wagner. “We have spoken and Jon is still positive. He knows I believe he has done a fantastic job this season.”
