Morrison returns as Clark eyes shut-outs
DEFENDER Sean Morrison starts his second spell at Huddersfield Town this afternoon with manager Lee Clark stressing the need for more clean sheets.
Morrison, 21, is back at the Galpharm Stadium on loan from Reading until the summer but spent a month with the Terriers last season without playing a game.
Although Town have kept 10 clean sheets so far, including two in the last three games, Clark says that figure needs to improve in order to secure promotion.
“Ultimately, I’m an attack-minded manager,” said Clark. “I want to win and play attractive football that creates chances which is why we play with wingers.
“But teams that win championships and get automatic promotion have a fair amount of one, two and three-nils to their name,” he added. “That’s what we have to start doing on a more regular basis.”
Clark wanted to sign Morrison on a permanent deal from Swindon Town last season but he opted instead for a move to Championship club Reading.
He has still not played a league game for the Royals and is desperate to play more first-team football.
“Sean is a top player who adds power, strength and competition for places,” said Clark.
“When he came in last year he was even better than we thought from what we had seen of him. Even though he didn’t get on the field of play, he made a huge impact on everyone.
The other defenders saw how good he was in training and knew that one slip-up would cost them their place.”
With both Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United involved in the FA Cup today, the Terriers will go three points clear in second spot if they win at Tranmere Rovers.
Leaders Charlton Athletic, who are seven points clear with a game in hand, visit Exeter.
