Hughes likely to be in market with several bids
Loftus Road is expected to be the centre of attention on transfer deadline day after Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Hughes said he could bring in as many as four new players.
Hughes is keen to sign a striker before tonight’s 11pm deadline, with Lazio’s Djibril Cisse the most likely target, though he stressed negotiations were far from “done and dusted.”
Cisse, the former Liverpool and Sunderland forward, has found himself out of favour in Italy having scored only twice in 25 appearances this season.
Wigan’s Hugo Rodallega emerged as another potential QPR target, though Latics boss Roberto Martinez said the club was under no pressure to cash in on a player whose contract expires in the summer.
Fulham and West Bromwich Albion have also been linked with the Colombian.
QPR did confirm the signing of defensive midfielder Samba Diakite from Nancy, but ruled out last-minute swoops for want-away Blackburn Rovers defender Christopher Samba and unsettled Manchester City forward Carlos Tevez.
The Argentinian is currently back in his home country, and must wait nervously to see if suitors AC Milan table another offer after Inter Milan, Paris St Germain and super-rich Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala ruled out bids last week.
Everton are the favourites to sign Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic, but manager David Moyes refused to comment yesterday on whether an offer has been made for the Croatian, who is valued at £8m.
Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill is planning some last-minute window shopping, but revealed a bid for Bolton striker Kevin Davies has been rejected.
Davies, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has been left out of Owen Coyle’s team in recent weeks, but the Scot is keen to keep hold of his captain.
Chelsea are on the verge of signing Kevin De Bruyne from Genk after the winger underwent a medical at Stamford Bridge yesterday.
The 20-year-old, valued at £6.75m, will sign a five-and-a-half year deal but will be loaned back to the Belgian club for the rest of the season.
Nottingham Forest confirmed the signing of Wolves midfielder Adlene Guedioura until the end of the season.
Defender Wes Morgan has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with Leicester City after a £1m fee was agreed.
West Ham said Genoa striker Ze Eduardo had a medical at the club last night, while Ipswich Town have signed Hearts midfielder Ryan Stevenson for an undisclosed fee.
