Harry Maguire expects a tough challenge when Hull City host Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup today.
The third round tie sees two of the Championship’s promotion contenders face each other, although Brighton have lost three of their last four games.
The Seasiders were undefeated until the December 19 visit of Middlesbrough to the AMEX Stadium.
Hull, by way of contrast, won their last game against Queens Park Rangers.
Brighton are, however, only three points behind Hull in the Championship table.
Understandably Maguire expects a “tricky tie”, but believes Hull’s cup form at the KC Stadium should see the Tigers reach the fourth round.
“To get through in the cup you have to play some tricky sides and I’d class tomorrow as a tricky tie where people would expect us to win the game as the home side,” said Maguire.
“We know they’re a very good side with an excellent away record and they’re towards the top of the Championship for a reason.
“You have to start your cup games somewhere and the most important thing is just to get through the first couple of rounds and see where it’ll take you.
“Throughout a cup run you will play teams where you are expected to win and you’ll play teams where you are expected to lose but you’ve just got to try your best to progress no matter who the opposition is on the day.
“When you have a big squad like ourselves then you’d expect some changes for the game to keep us fresh for all the games coming up.
“As we showed in the Capital One Cup, we went on a good run and knocked out some very good Premier League teams at home and showed that we fancy ourselves against anyone at the KC.”
