Hull City boss Marco Silva holds talks with Porto

Marco Silva was last night edging towards the exit door at Hull City after flying to Portugal for talks with Porto.

The 39-year-old, in charge at the KCOM Stadium since January, is expected back in England on Wednesday ahead of a scheduled meeting with City’s owners.

Hull are keen to retain Silva’s services but it is understood the Portuguese is ready to call time on his stay in the East Riding following relegation. Porto, one of the game’s giants in his native country, are a big lure, while there is also plenty of interest in the Tigers’ head coach from elsewhere in Europe.

Watford are believed to have been keeping a close eye on his situation following the dismissal of Walter Mazzari last week, though it also emerged yesterday that former Bayer Leverkusen manager Roger Schmidt is highly regarded at Vicarage Road.

Southampton were also heavily linked with Silva but Porto, following the dismissal of Nuno Espirito Santo, are considered to be his favoured destination.

That will come as a blow to supporters who had made no secret of their desire for Silva to stay following relegation.

“Marco Silva – we want you to stay,” was sung by the Tigers fans during the final day thrashing by Spurs but relegation looks to have ended those hopes.

It means Hull will have to start their third managerial search in less than a year following the previous departures of Steve Bruce and Mike Phelan.

Another potential appointment with ramifications in Yorkshire is Norwich City targeting Borussia Dortmund reserve team coach Daniel Farke as their new man at the helm.

The Canaries have been without a manager since Alex Neil’s dismissal in March, former Sheffield Wednesday chief Alan Irvine having been placed in interim charge.

David Wagner, Garry Monk, Paul Heckingbottom and Carlos Carvalhal have all been linked with the post during those intervening two months. The presence of former Huddersfield Town head of operations, Stuart Webber, only added to the intrigue amid suggestions he wanted to bring in Wagner.

However, Webber has now turned to Farke, who since succeeding Wagner in November 2015 has guided Dortmund’s reserve to second in the table.

Farke is likely to have a limited budget at Carrow Road with Norwich needing to offload several high earners in order to reinvest back into the squad.

Yanic Wildschut - who only joined from Wigan in January - Steven Naismith, Michael McGovern and Matt Jarvis could all be sold this summer. Norwich finished eighth last season.
