Hull City 3 Bristol City 0: Tigers back in play-off zone
Hull City manager Nick Barmby.
HULL City moved back into the Championship play-off positions with a comfortable victory against struggling Bristol City at the KC Stadium, writes Robert Gledhill.
The Tigers were able to name a full-strength squad as they returned to action after having had their match at Portsmouth postponed last week.
Goalkeeper Vito Mannone was aiming to keep a fourth successive clean sheet against a Bristol side lacking suspended duo James Wilson and Yannick Bolasie following their dismissals against Leeds last week.
Manchester United loanee winger Josh King was on the bench for Hull.
Hull raced into a 2-0 lead with Jack Hobbs seeing his diving header deflected in off a defender from the game’s first corner in the 13th minute before provider Robert Koren turned finisher by heading in a cross from Robbie Brady two minutes later.
Albert Adomah cracked a shot against the bar and the follow-up from Chris Wood was cleared off the line but that proved a rare attack from the visitors in the first half.
It was virtually game over just past the hour mark when Koren pushed the ball through and Matty Fryatt sidestepped David James before placing the ball into the net to convert his fourth opportunity of the half.
Marvin Elliott had a header cleared off the line from Bristol’s first corner in the 75th minute but Hull were on top, bringing on Manchester United loanee Josh King up front and withdrawing midfielder Corry Evans.
Aaron Mclean and Tom Cairney were also given late run-outs as Brady and Koren were rested ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Birmingham.
