Huddersfield Town manager Chris Powell paid tribute to the returning Nahki Wells after the striker scored twice to salvage a draw at Ipswich Town.

The Terriers’ top scorer had been omitted by Powell for the last two matches, but Wells responded in perfect fashion as Ipswich surrendered a lead for the fourth consecutive match.

Powell said: “That was exactly the response I wanted from Nahki. He has not played for tactical reasons, but he is a goalscorer and you always want them in your squad.

“He could have actually had a hat-trick and maybe more, but I will settle for two.

“We deserved at least a point. I was very pleased with the performance, even when we were behind. Everyone played their part – something that is really good for me as a new manager of a fantastic club.”

Ipswich took the lead in the 21st minute with their first chance of a scrappy first half, Tommy Smith nodding in Teddy Bishop’s corner.

The hosts doubled their advantage 10 minutes after the restart when Town’s defence were static as Christophe Berra diverted David McGoldrick’s cross in from close range.

The Terriers clawed themselves back into the game in the 71st minute when Luke Chambers wrestled Grant Holt to the ground and Wells confidently struck home the spot-kick.

The equaliser followed when Wells took advantage of great work by substitute Sean Scannell and Tommy Smith to nod home from close range.
