Britain’s got talent - but how much of it will Leeds trawl bring to Elland Road?

LEEDS boss Neil Warnock has sent the club’s scouts on a round-Britain mission - with Portsmouth likely to be among the first stops.

Warnock’s assistant Mick Jones, first-team coach Ronnie Jepson and around half a dozen other scouts were sent to analyse potential signings after Leeds’ 1-1 draw with Cardiff at the weekend.

Their targets are widely reported to include Portsmouth centre-back Jason Pearce, and Warnock has admitted his talent trawl before the end of the season reflected the urgency of the job facing him.

Few areas of the Leeds team will remain untouched after their run of four wins from 14 games since Warnock’s arrival.

He said: “Usually you tinker in the summer, bringing in one or two and trying to improve what you’ve got. We need more than that. We need quite a lot of players.

“That’s why there were no staff with me. All the staff were watching games. We had about eight or nine people out.

“We’ve got targets, players we’re looking at, and we want to move quickly. We don’t want to wait until July just to save a couple of months’ wages. We want to get one or two or four or five in straight away if we can.

“Then get the rest in before we start training.

“We might have to wait for the odd one right up until kick-off but I want most of them in, up and running and familiar with each other. There’s a long summer ahead.”
