Cardiff City 0 Leeds United 0: Cardiff strike woodwork twice in goalless first half

Cardiff midfielder Peter Whittingham twice struck the woodwork as Leeds clung on to go in level at the break.

Whittingham forced a fine save out of Rob Green after 15 minutes, with the veteran keeper tipping a strike onto the top of the crossbar.

Chris Wood wasted United’s best opportunity when he struck straight at Ben Amos after neat work from Pablo Hernandez.

On the stroke of half-time, Whittingham was unlucky not to put the hosts in front when his free-kick clipped the post.

Captain Liam Bridcutt failed in his race against time to be fit for Leeds.

Bridcutt limped off early in the second half of Tuesday night’s 2-1 victory against Blackburn Rovers with a foot injury and has failed to make United’s match day 18 against Cardiff.

Ronaldo Vieira starts in his place with Whites head coach Garry Monk also recalling Chris Wood upfront in place of Marcus Antonsson who drops to the bench.

Centre-back Kyle Bartley will captain Leeds in Bridcutt’s absence.
