Have your say: Who should succeed Simon Grayson at Leeds United?

Is Neil Warnock your choice for the next Leeds manager?

Is Neil Warnock your choice for the next Leeds manager?

Former Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock and Chelsea assistant manager Roberto di Matteo are among the early front-runners to replace Simon Grayson at Leeds United. But who would be your choice?

Join the debate by adding your comments below. And cast your vote on the panel at the right-hand side of the page.

Warnock is the 6/4 favourite to replace Grayson according to Ladbrokes.

The bookies make Gus Poyet the 9/2 second favourite while club legend Gordon Strachan is a 5/1 chance.

Lee Clark is 10/1 to swap Huddersfield for Leeds while Gary McAllister is the 12/1 outsider for a shock return to the club.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “We’ve installed Warnock as a warm early favourite. As ever with these markets early money speaks volumes and favouritism could change several times before the day is out.”

Jasper Carrott used to joke that the only way Birmingham would get into Europe was if there was a war. It seems like that with Leeds it has been so long. Can you hire a manager on a loan basis? Just asking because if you can, Bates will do it. Norwich: League One to Premiership 2 years. Southampton:looking good for promotion when they nearly folded a few years ago. Blackpool. How does Blackpool even compete with their postage stamp ground? But they got into the Premiership. QPR, Sunderland,Wolves Swansea can all make it but Leeds always has an excuse or an owner that is to scared to open up their wallet. it is pointless having a 44,000 seat stadium if you are only going to get 19,000 to watch you. Get Warnock in now and get him to have look at this squad and then next season give him a decent budget and get Leeds back to the Premiership.

Warnock won't be able to suck tit while the penny pinching milk man hides the cream he needs.

Simon Grayson got us promoted from Division 1 and we had some notable Cup games against Man. Utd., Spurs and Arsenal under his stewardship. We will always be grateful for to him for that. Grayson started well but the club seems to have flat-lined in the past 12 months. We cannot hide the fact we've had some terrible home defeats this year. His new signings free signings have hardly been a success - Brown, O'Brien, Bruce, Paynter. When other teams have strengthened their teams (Billy Sharp to Southampton Nicky Maynard to West Ham) we sell our club captain and take three players on loan. Has Bates invested in our club? Has he bought back Thorpe Arch or Elland Road? In the 7 year Bates has been Chairman - Gradel, Howson, Johnson, Rose, Kilkenny, Delph, Schmeichel, Sullivan, Derry and Hulse have all left club. We are a 'selling club' with no ambition under Bates? Did Bates really expect Simon Grayson to get us promoted on such a shoe string. The problem at Leeds remains Bates.

Leeds will never go up while that clown Bates is running things. Grayson should have stayed and Bates should have been kicked up his butt and out of the ground.

Sad to say but it was obvious to any one sitting in the stands last season that our deffence was awfull( if we can see it you would think them being the experts would aswell), so what did they do in the summer??? sell kasper!! who was probablly the only good thing in that back line, then they did nothing to put right the problems at the back so we continue in the same vein this season, i dont blame Grayson he did not get the financial backing he needed and the problem we have is that any one coming in is going to be in the same position. ps please please please not Steve Bruce!!!!!!

We need a new approach to coaching, scouting and team selection at the club. Warnock has a great record at getting small clubs promoted (up one division). He's never been able to sustain success in the top flight. His style is very much Mike Bassett - all 'blood and guts'. A comic vaudeville style English manager with a big rage and anger. Maybe Bates has a crude strategy - get us up with Warnock - then sell out! Longer term we need a Brendan Rogers, Nigel Adkins, Roberto Martinez, Paul Lambert type manager. A forward thinking coach to nurture talent and promote the beautiful game. Passing, movement, comfort on the ball and organised defending. Gus Poyet and Roberto Di Matteo are closer to this type. Gordon Strachan still has a lot to prove in management. Eddie Howe is a rising star. The problem is not the size of the club, it's history or the expectations of our massive fan base - it working with Bates.

wow! something had to give... i just hope the chief scout and grayson's back room staff collect their P45's! why on earth were we wasting time and money "looking" at a winger, i.e. mattie pattison, who seems to do well i.e. score 2 goals in 2 games only to be let go? a winger!? this to me typifies the incompetence of SG. don't get me wrong, i love that he took us up and i love his passion for leeds but he should've kept it in his trousers and he should've got a defensively technical coach in a lot sooner. no substitutions last night, to me, proved he'd given up. as much as i'd love someone as technical as di matteo or poyet we need to get out of this league and NW is a proven manager at this level. whether he'd come, or whether he's even realistically on the cards is another matter. i'll be happy with anyone who can set the teams stall out properly and get them defending as a unit.

A new manager might well galvanize a team recently jaded by the sale of their captain and other talismatic players, however a new board, chairman and owner would galvanize an army of supporters who have been lied to and bled of every penny and ounce of optimism for the past 7 years of the Bates dynasty. Warnock? You've got to be kidding! He hates Leeds, and there's no way on earth a bloke like him would want to work for Bates. Di Matteo? I think the culture shock transferring from Abramovic's millions and Kings Road lifestyle would be very possibly give him a seizure! Personally, I'd love to see Gus back. He was the real driving force behind us when Ken's pet, Wise, was here, and he made us play real expansive, attractive football. The problem is, can we pull him away from Brighton where he's given free reign to do whatever he wants?? MOT

Bates has done the right thing, dont knock him for it. This needed to be done and he has done it. Grayson is no doubt gutted but to be fair he was given a fair chance and last nights result was made his sacking inevitable. Providing he can work with Bates then Warnock has to be the one to get us in the premier league. He has the experience we need and his record of promotions speak for itself.

Warnock of Poyet, but Harvey and the others should go! No character. Can't even back the team or support the manager. They blame everyone else for their own incompetence. What about the Leeds united brand, Harvey. Are you so useless that you cant even develop that now! Supporters are witnessing the ruination of the once great Leeds United brand. Leeds will never get over this level of mismanagement!

When is the root cause of all this going to be reported? Seven years and where have we gone (apart from places like Yeovil).....NOWHERE. I didnt renew my season ticket on principle and in so doing have torn myself apart!! All this about budgets is tosh with the wage bill being below 50% of the turnover....where is all the money going and dont say on the East Stand as that will be paid on an HP type agreement. Exciting signings promised, building brick by brick etc etc.......why does everything have to be hidden behind smoke and mirrors. Where has the recent £1mill Arsenal money gone let alone Gradels fee and Howsons. Why cant there be transparency with the fans who after all pay the bills....because its all lies and deceit!! How much longer is this situation going to prevail...thats easy....until a united voice isheard loud and clear and channelled through the local media!!

i love gordon stracham or poyet to take over at my beloved leeds utd but still cant see any maneger doing any better than grayson as long as tied ass mr bates stays as a chairman at leeds utd fc. how can you winn games if you dont have good quilty players playing for the club. you can get promoted with cheap loans players and im afraid that if mr bates still running the club next seoson we will go back down to leauge 1 division. stay out bates so we can move foward cos you cant afford leeds utd fc any more. thaomas clinch malta

comments one and two describe the problem, I don't think a new manager, with Bates still running the show, will make a difference. But I hope I'm wrong.
