Celtic manager Ronny Deila has ruled out a deal to sell Tom Rogic to Leeds United - and confirmed that the Glasgow club want to extend the midfielder’s contract.

Rogic is a target of United head coach Steve Evans but Deila appeared to dismiss any chance of Celtic discussing a move to Elland Road this month.

The 23-year-old Australia international is into the last 18 months of his deal at Celtic Park and Evans was keen to land him for a fee in the region of £1m.

But Deila said: “I haven’t heard so much about that but what I do know is that we want to re-sign Tom and have him here for the future.

"He’s made a lot of progress and we see a lot of potential in him.

“He can do much better because he has only played for six months after being out for a year before that.

“He needs time so he’s going to stay here with Celtic.”

Rogic cost Celtic £400,000 when he joined the club from Australian side Central Coast Mariners in 2013 but the early stages of his career in Scotland were badly affected by injury.

He has played regularly this season, however, and is set to win an extension to a deal which ends in June 2017.
