Verdict: In Garry Monk, we appear to have appointed a decent manager. But the Championship is now full of big spending clubs and he isn’t a miracle worker. We appear to be dispensing with the unsuccessful Italian ‘Old Guard’ and if we can maintain a keen work ethic, augmented with a bit of quality – and Lewis Cook will be sorely missed following his sale to Bournemouth – we may, for once, flirt with a top-half finish. However, our new signings are very much untried and untested so my expectations are no greater than a mid-table finish – probably tenth to 12th.

Key man: Chris Wood will score goals in this division if fully fit.

Advice to manager: The same as to all recent managers - rent rather than buy!

What will make or break your club’s season: We have to invest both heavily and wisely.

What changes are needed off the field: Stability. Only then can we realistically start looking at a top six finish.

Which team would you like to most beat and why: Newcastle United – a great atmosphere will be guaranteed in front of perhaps next season’s only sell-out crowd.

Promoted: Newcastle, Norwich and Derby.

Relegated: Burton, Rotherham and Fulham.

Predicted finish: 10th-12th.
