The station was founded by Mr Bates in 2014 following the closure of his former Yorkshire Radio operation.

Mr Wilson said of Redfearn’s appointment: “Neil knows of the pressure involved in football on and off the field, and can offer us insights only someone has been there and done it can.”

Redfearn added: “I’m looking forward joining the team at Radio Yorkshire and getting to watch Leeds United every week. It looks like an exciting season ahead.”

Last week, Redfearn’s partner, former Leeds United education and welfare officer Lucy Ward, was awarded £290,000 following her tribunal victory against the club for unfair dismissal and sex discrimination.
