FEDERICO VIVIANI’S proposed transfer to Leeds United hung in the balance last night as he and the club attempted to thrash out the terms of his loan move from Roma.

Discussions involving United owner Massimo Cellino ran late into the evening as Leeds worked to tie up their sixth summer signing and resolve complications surrounding the deal.

Viviani, 22, looked set to complete his switch to Elland Road yesterday after flying to England and attending United’s pre-season friendly at Mansfield Town on Tuesday night.

The midfielder sat in the directors box at Field Mill, watching as Leeds slipped to a 2-0 defeat.

Viviani’s camp are understood to have been unimpressed with United’s performance against the League Two club but he will complete his move as planned if he and Leeds can iron out the contractual issues which developed in the past 24 hours.

Cellino is currently out of the country but he stepped into the discussions yesterday in an attempt to force an agreement.

Viviani, a former Italian Under-21 international, has chosen to take up a year-long loan at Leeds, despite attracting interest from clubs in Italy.
