FC Halifax Town 4 Dover 2: Harvey strengthens claim for Shay post

A brace from Shaun Tuton and one each from Nicky Wroe and Jordan Burrow helped Halifax to their second home win of the season and possibly moved Harvey a step closer to the manager’s job on a permanent basis.

Harvey reiterated his desire to get the job and said he was delighted with his team’s display following on from last week’s 4-1 win at Gateshead. “It was terrific. Obviously we want to win but what I’m looking for first is a performance,” he said.

“It was a really good performance, which was gutsy and determined against a very good Dover side.

“I thought they (Dover) were very good and had some really tricky players. But we got a performance similar to last week and a result to match.”

Tuton swept the ball in after Kevin Roberts’s cross was not cleared before Wroe capped a rapid counter-attack five minutes later by driving past Andy Rafferty at the second attempt.

Ricky Miller beat Matty Brown to a through ball and tapped in after seeing his first shot saved.

Tuton turned provider after taking advantage of a dreadful error by a Dover defender to square the ball for Burrow to tap in.

A well-struck low free-kick by Stefan Payne from 20 yards again saw Dover peg back their hosts but Tuton sealed the win as he drove the ball home after racing in behind the defence.
